In Holland, the right-wing christian-democrat leader in parliament called for a ban on coffee houses where marijuana is sold. Peter van Geel declared there is cross-party momentum to close the cafés, but the coalition labor party, Pvda disagrees and van Geel soon found his words coming under fire from a wide political spectrum. In revised remarks, van Geel said that he respected the coalition agreement and will not press for a ban during this government's tenure, which should last until 2011.
